The book Applied Industrial Control: Including Case Studies of Power Plant Control Systems, authored by Dr. Mohsen Montazeri, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering (Control and Power) at Shahid Beheshti University, has been published.

This book was published for the first time in 2025, in 438 pages, in Vaziri format, by Shahid Beheshti University Press, and is available to interested readers at the price of 3,950,000 IRR.

Control systems, as one of the fundamental components of industrial processes, play a critical role in industries such as refineries, power plants, cement factories, and the automotive industry. They contribute significantly to ensuring safety, increasing productivity, improving operational efficiency, complying with environmental requirements, and meeting the needs of operators.

Accordingly, given the central role of industry in the economic, social, and political development of countries and the substantial level of investment in this sector, special attention to industrial control systems is of great importance. While many existing educational resources primarily focus on theoretical aspects and functional performance of control systems, paying less attention to implementation aspects and realization technologies, this book provides a comprehensive examination of the technologies used to realize control systems in industrial processes, along with their associated practical considerations.

In the first chapter, the book discusses the necessity of focusing on control system realization technologies and their position in industry, and introduces an example of an industrial control system. The second chapter is devoted to a detailed description of the components of an industrial control system. In the third chapter, common control structures—such as cascade and feedforward control—are examined, along with mathematical and experimental modeling approaches used in industry. The fourth chapter comprehensively explains the design stages and realization technology of a sample industrial control system, namely the power plant drum water level control system. The fifth chapter addresses the realization technology of the most widely used industrial controller, the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).

At the end of the book, as an advanced case study, the gas turbine control system of a power plant is analyzed from both functional and implementation perspectives. Applied Industrial Control is aligned with the course syllabi of Industrial Control at the undergraduate level and Advanced Industrial Control at the graduate level in Electrical Engineering. In addition, it can serve as a valuable scientific and practical reference for engineers working in the fields of control systems and instrumentation in power plants.

Interested readers can obtain the printed version of the book by visiting the Sales Office of the Center for Publishing Scientific Works of Shahid Beheshti University, located on the ground floor of the Information Technology (IT) Building, or by placing an online order through the Center’s website. The electronic version of the book is also available via the Fidibo and Taghcheh platforms.
